The person being honored for Nova Scotia Heritage Day 2026 is Joseph William Comeau.
The holiday will recognize Comeau (1876–1966) for his significant contributions to the province and the Acadian community:
Acadian Champion: He was a dedicated advocate for the recognition and preservation of Acadian history and culture.
Political Career: Comeau served as a long-standing political figure, representing Digby County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly (1907–1925 and 1928–1948) before serving in the Senate of Canada from 1948 until 1966.
Local Roots: He was originally from Comeauville, Nova Scotia
